Hello there!
Completely unrelated to teaching, I wanted to share some of my favorite pictures from the past few weeks of my little ladies.
Paige was an angel in her school Christmas play and she lost her first tooth (she pulled it out all by herself). She has been loving the snow that has been falling for the last few days and is excited to celebrate her birthday just next week. Saydie is also enjoying the snow and the Christmas season!
She LOVES to open presents, too!

Do any of you have to complete an Evidence Binder? In case you have no idea what I am talking about, it is now part of New York State's new teacher evaluation plan. Since the beginning of the school year I have been shoving my "evidence" into the front of my binder. I really need to sit down to sort through and organize what has been collected so far.
I added some fun game cards to my Snowman Letter Identification!
Now in addition to using the letter cards with the alphabet charts, you can also use the letter cards with the new game cards to play a fun card game to reinforce letters and sounds.
You can find my Snowman Letter Identification in both of my shops, just click on one of the links below:
Last, but not least, before break I was able to attend a one-day training for the Lindamood-Bell Phoneme Sequencing program called LiPS. Do any of you currently use the program? I would like to start incorporating it into my instruction with some of my kinderkids who are REALLY struggling with letter identification, but would love some feedback from real teachers who are using it! What are your thoughts?

I do not know anything about LiPs, but am curious to hear about it and how it might help struggling students. Your little ladies are so cute! :)

Thank you Lori!!
DeleteHi Julie - back to school tomorrow! Oh, yes, I have an evidence binder, too, ha! I orgainzed mine by domains. I am also curious to hear about LiPs, sounds interesting. I hope you had a wonderful break and your little ladies are adorable!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie, I am a speech pathologist on Long Island. I attended the 3 day training for LIPS about 8 years ago. I have seen some students really connect with the program. Our district currently utilizes Fundations; however there are a few students who need a different approach and LIPS has helped them with sound-symbol and letter i.d. Being a speech pathologist, I do like that it is a multisensory approach. Unfortunately, we are not able to utilize it 5 days a week (which is the recommendation from Lindamood Bell) but I have still seen success with those struggling students that need a different approach. With any program, I think there is value but not one size fits all...that is what makes our jobs challenging and fun! :) Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of LIPS, but I would also like to know about how it can help strugglers. Your snowmen are really cute. I t seems like no matter how much I review with my Title kinder kids their letters and sight words, they are still not getting them so I am looking for different games to help. We've started beginning sounds and that is a tough one for some.
ReplyDeleteI have some kids who have really responded to the letter-keyword-sound routine that we do daily. It has really helped connect their letters to the sounds. I do have some students who are significantly below in identifying and naming their letters and sounds too, Lee Ann. I went back to focusing on a single letter at a time and then reviewing only the letters we have done together-incorporating more multisensory activities (like skywriting and writing the letters in salt, etc..) with lots and lots of repetition. They have shown some gains, but not a significant amount.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information! I worry about how successful the program will be with my students seeing that they will only be receiving the LiPS instruction from me, 30 minutes a day. It won't necessarily be followed through in the classroom. I still think it is worth a try with some of my little ones though!
ReplyDeleteThanks Allison! Still working on my binder! What domains do you organize yours by? Our district is using the NYSUT rubric and we are being evaluated on standard 1. Currently I have my binder split into the 6 sections of standard 1. I wasn't sure if that was the best way to go though since some of the items overlap and I don't think it is necessary to put the same item in there twice.
