Ladybugs Letters and Sounds Game

Need some new games to help your students practice letters and sounds?  Many of my students are still working to master them, so I created these cute upper and lower case ladybug letter cards and currently use them with my students in two different games.
Teachers Notebook
Teachers Pay Teachers

One of the games is called, "Ladybugs".  It is a simple card game where you mix up the letter cards and additional playing cards into a pile and place facedown (or put them in a cute Spring themed container).  The students take turns selecting a card and naming the letter and/or sound, or follow the directions written on the card.  Once all of the cards are selected, I flip through each student's pile of letters and have them name the letters or sounds to practice fluency.

The second game is "Find the Ladybug".  This can be played on the tabletop or in a pocket chart.  I use a pocket chart and play this game if I have a few moments to spare before our group time ends.  The kids love it!  This is the same game that I posted about here.  Head over to that post for directions and pictures!

What are some things you do to help your students master their letters and sounds?

Flower ABC/123, Buzzing Revision, Giveaway

I am almost embarrassed to say this, but I made this Flower ABC and 123 Pack a few months ago and completely forgot about it.
OOPS!
(Is that bad or what?)
So I need to share it with you now
before I forget about it again!!
This pack includes:
Flower Letters ABC Boards (upper and lower)
Flower Letters Color the ABC Path (upper and lower)
Flower Numbers Color the Path (1-25)
Write the Missing Flower Letters (upper and lower)
Write all of the Flower Letters

I have had some requests to incorporate numbers in some of my packs.  I haven't done this in the past, (frankly because I work on literacy skills and the activities I share with you are those I create to use with my own students) but since it was easy enough to incorporate some basic numbers in this pack, I did!

Also, I revised my Buzzing Through Letters and Sounds a bit by adding to additional pages to the file.  I condensed the pages to list the two upper case versions together (twice) on one page (for a total of four on the page) and the same thing for the lower case versions.  I thought it would help save paper and space in student folders when documenting student progress.

Finally, just wanted to remind you about the giveaway I have going on until for the Easi-Speak Digital Microphone!!
You guys are so clever!  I love reading about all of the different ways you would use it with your little ones!!

Bunnies and Chicks Early Literacy

I just put together a set of activities to practice some early literacy skills.  It has adorable bunnies and cute little chicks to help practice letter identification, letter-sound correspondences, letter writing, and isolating beginning and ending sounds!

Here is what I included:
Bunny Letter Finds and Bunny Letter Mix-Ups: to practice letter identification.

Write the Missing/All Bunny Letters (upper and lower):  to practice writing their upper and lower case letters in ABC order.

Chick Beginning/Ending Sounds:  to practice identifying the letter that makes the sound at the beginning of the word, then at the end of the word.  They will then write the letters heard at the beginning and end of the word.

These activities address the following Common Core Learning Standards:
~  RF.K.1d:  Recognize and name all upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
~  RF.K.2d:  Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds(phonemes) in three phoneme (CVC) words.
~  RF.K.3a:  Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or many of the most frequent sound for each consonant.
~ L.K.1a:  Print many upper- and lowercase letters.
~  L.k.2c:  Write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).

Spring Phoneme Segmentation

Happy Spring!!

To celebrate Spring, I put together a some Elkonin boxes with cute little flowers to practice phoneme segmentation.
My students will use a seed or a jellybean and slide it up the stem to the flower for each sound that is heard in the word dictated or pictured in a picture card.  (There are two different versions included in the download:  one for words up to 3 sounds and the other for words up to 4 sounds.)  They will then connect the sounds they hear to the letters and write the word on the corresponding worksheet.  Click on the picture above to learn more!

It surely doesn't feel like March here in Upstate New York, we have been having the most glorious weather here!  Temps are forecasted to be in the 80's on Thursday!  Very exciting.  This has kept me outside with my little one almost every single afternoon, which is taking me away from my little blog.  I have many things floating in my head to sit down and create, and am hoping to do so soon!  The kiddos at school are just as excited as I am, and boy do they have Spring Fever!  It feels like it is the end of June.  Hopefully we can all pull ourselves together since it is only March!   LOL!
